Random Thoughts From The Intern: Love VS “In Love”

Over the weekend, I caught up with some friends at the local bar. You know the conversation is getting real when all of sudden one person is the only person talking.

At the end of the night, I was with one of my guy friends, and he couldn’t stop talking about his ex. He told me how she screwed him over, how she cheated on him, and how she’s cheating on her current boyfriend… Plus I’ve heard all of this before. None of it was news to me, but I let him talk because it seemed like he needed to get it out.

When I could get a word in, I asked, “So you’re still in love with her?”

If someone can go on for hours about their ex, they clearly have not gotten over them. Am I wrong?

He told me, “No, I love her and will always love her, but I’m not in love with her.”

Random Thought: Is there a difference in love? How long do you have to be apart from someone before you can start announcing you aren’t in love but still love them? I’m curious because when you get out of a relationship, doesn’t that mean you’ve fallen out of love?

I have an ex that I’m still friends with and there’s been times when I’ve said I love him and would do anything for him, but I’m not “in love” with him. We’ve been exes since 2009 though. The friend I currently mentioned… well his break up is fairly new.

Am I missing something here?
